MSG hides behind 25 or more names, such as Natural Flavoring." MSG is even in your favorite coffee from Tim Horton's and Starbucks coffee shops!

I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic, and so did a friend of mine, John Erb. He was a research assistant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, and spent years working for the government. He made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals for a book he was writing called The Slow Poisoning of America .

In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies. No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so scientists have to create them. They make these creatures morbidly obese by injecting them with MSG when they are first born.

The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates, causing rats(and perhaps humans) to become obese. They even have a name for the fat rodents they create: "MSG-Treated Rats."

When I heard this, I was shocked. I went into my kitchen and checked the cupboards and the refrigerator. MSG was in everything -- the Campbell 's soups, the Hostess Doritos, the Lays flavored potato chips, Top Ramen,Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen prepared meals, and Kraft salad dressings, especially the "healthy low-fat" ones.

The items that didn't have MSG marked on the product label had something called "Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein," which is just another name for Monosodium Glutamate.

It was shocking to see just how many of the foods we feed our children everyday are filled with this stuff. MSG is hidden under many different names in order to fool those who read the ingredient list, so that they don't catch on. (Other names for MSG are "Accent, "Aginomoto," "Natural Meat Tenderizer," etc.)

But it didn't stop there.

When our family went out to eat, we started asking at the restaurants what menu items contained MSG. Many employees, even the managers, swore they didn't use MSG. But when we ask for the ingredient list, which they grudgingly provided, sure enough, MSG and Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein were everywhere.

Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, A & W, every restaurant -- even the sit-down eateries like TGIF, Chili's, Applebee's, and Denny's -- use MSG in abundance. Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed to be the WORST offender: MSG was in every chicken dish, salad dressing. and gravy. No wonder I loved to eat that coating on the skin -- their secret spice was MSG!

So why is MSG in so many of the foods we eat? Is it a preservative, or a vitamin?

Not according to my friend John Erb. In his book The Slow Poisoning of America , he said that MSG is added to food for the addictive effect it has on the human body.

Even the propaganda website sponsored by the food manufacturers lobby group supporting MSG explains that the reason they add it to food is to make people eat more.

A study of the elderly showed that older people eat more of the foods that it is added to. The Glutamate Association lobbying group says eating more is a benefit to the elderly, but what does it do to the rest of us?

"Betcha can't eat [just] one," takes on a whole new meaning where MSG is concerned! And we wonder why the nation is overweight!

MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added.

Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive substance. Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago,MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the pre-packaged meals, soups, snacks, and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday.

The FDA has set no limits on how much of it can be added to food. They claim it's safe to eat in any amount. But how can they claim it's safe when there are hundreds of scientific studies with titles like these:

"The monosodium glutamate (MSG) obese rat as a model for the study of exercise in obesity." Gobatto CA, Mello MA, Souza CT , Ribeiro IA. Res Commun Mol Pathol Pharmacol. 2002.

"Adrenalectomy abolishes the food-induced hypothalamic serotonin release in both normal and monosodium glutamate-obese rats." Guimaraes RB, Telles MM, Coelho VB, Mori C, Nascimento CM, Ribeiro. Brain Res Bull. 2002 Aug.

'Obesity induced by neonatal monosodium glutamate treatment in spontaneously hypertensive rats: An animal model of multiple risk factors." Iwase M, Yamamoto M, Iino K, Ichikawa K, Shinohara N, Yoshinari Fujishima. Hypertens Res. 1998 Mar.

"Hypothalamic lesion induced by injection of monosodium glutamate in suckling period and subsequent development of obesity." Tanaka K, Shimada M, Nakao K Kusunoki. Exp Neurol. 1978 Oct.

No, the date of that last study was not a typo; it was published in
1978. Both the "medical research community" and "food manufacturers" have known about the side effects of MSG for decades.

Many more of the studies mentioned in John Erb's book link MSG to diabetes, migraines and headaches, autism, ADHD, and even Alzheimer's.

So what can we do to stop the food manufactures from dumping this fattening and addictive MSG into our food supply and causing the obesity epidemic we now see?

Several months ago, John Erb took his book and his concerns to one of the highest government health officials in Canada . While he was sitting in the government office, the official told him, "Sure, I know how bad MSG is. I wouldn't touch the stuff." But this top-level government official refuses to tell the public what he knows.

The big media doesn't want to tell the public either, fearing issues with their advertisers. It seems that the fallout on the fast food industry may hurt their profit margin. The food producers and restaurants have been addicting us to their products for years, and now we are paying the price for it. Our children should not be cursed with obesity caused by an addictive food additive.

But what can I do about it? I'm just one voice! What can I do to stop the poisoning of our children, while our governments are insuring financial protection for the industry that is poisoning us?

This message is going out to everyone I know in an attempt to tell you the truth that the corporate-owned politicians and media won't tell you.

The best way you can help to save yourself and your children from this drug-induced epidemic is to forward this article to everyone. With any luck, it will circle the globe before politicians can pass the legislation protecting those who are poisoning us.

The food industry learned a lot from the tobacco industry. Imagine if big tobacco had a bill like this in place before someone blew the whistle on nicotine?

If you are one of the few who can still believe that MSG is good for us and you don't believe what John Erb has to say, see for yourself. Go to the National Library of Medicine at www.pubmed.com. Type in the words "MSG Obese" and read a few of the 115 medical studies that appear.

We the public do not want to be rats in one giant experiment, and we do not approve of food that makes us into a nation of obese, lethargic, addicted sheep, feeding the food industry's bottom line while waiting for the heart transplant, the diabetic-induced amputation, blindness, or other obesity-induced, life-threatening disorders.

With your help we can put an end to this poison. Do your part in sending this message out by word of mouth, e-mail, or by distribution of this printout to your friends all over the world and stop this "Slow Poisoning of Mankind" by the packaged food industry.

One thing that he was critical of was governments bolstering 'dead' industries with billions of tax payers monies and would much prefer it was spent on fledgling companies.

His case in point was the car industry, where he argues the need to keep an industry that hasn't changed with the times, or made inroads into developing cleaner vehicles. Let them die, or at least slim down to a logical state and spend the money on hybrid or electric variations.

But dont stop there, what this country needs is a good spring clean. Get rid of the loss making industries, develop inovation, reinvent the Victorian age where this country lead and others followed.

Long live the revolution.

Lib Dem Treasury spokesman Jeremy Browne raised serious questions about the Government's ineptitude saying "This Government's record on IT is lamentable," he said. "Time and time again it wastes millions of pounds of taxpayers' money on IT projects which are delayed, ineffectual and over budget".

Being 'in the know' I can say what the Government has to do is look at the way a lot of these projects are run.
My understanding for the main cause for delay is the use of sub-contracted staff on extortionate wages that are not pushed to complete a project as that would mean a termination of their contract. The longer they keep a project running the more money they make.

This Government has severely eroded the Civil Service staffing, replacing them with temporary staff on twice (or not more) wages, who lack commitment to the job at hand. It is about time (in these financial strapped times) that they looked within and promote/develop staff with skills that could be far better used.

If as the BBC financial pundit Robert Peston puts it:

The bulk of the tax cuts will be directed at those on lowest incomes, partly because they have the highest propensity to spend

I feel that the only people to prosper from this would be the local off licence, the book makers, Primark and Aldi.
If the intention is to stimulate spending in ‘real’ shops then focus the tax cuts on the working classes, they would be more inclined to spend now as confidence in saving and banks is at an all time low. I myself would rather spend my extra cash on something more tangible now that prices are more ‘realistic’.

So come on Mr Darling give us poor working class a chance to celebrate a Happy Christmas…….

Yesterday I read that the Red Arrows will not form any part of the 2012 Olympics becasue thet are 'too British'?????

Today:

If Israel attacks Iran preemptively can the West afford to stand back and not do anything?

Wouldn't this be two faced?

But what action should or could the West do to save face?

We have to take into consideration that it could escalate to an all out war between Israel and Islamic states not discounting the use of nuclear warheads if Israel is put into a position where they may be overrun.
Could the West survive? Would we see a crash bigger than the depression and the possibility of World War?

Is it about time Israel had its reins pulled in. How can the West justify it being a nuclear state whilst we stop countries around it from 'protecting' themselves.

I fear every action and re-action that Israel makes, as it takes us one step towards the biblical recorded Armageddon.

Most peoples wages have been capped under the Inflation rate for the past 3 years and in some cases this has been compounded by wages rises being payed in two increments a year. This has resulted in a general reduction in spending power.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) takes into account electric goods and clothing which this country purchases from countries mainly using the Dollar as currency, this being so low against the pound has artificially kept White and Brown goods lower than last year and effecting the overall CPI.

Whereas food stuffs mainly bought from EU countries have seen hefty rises due to increased fuel costs.

If like me you live from day to day just putting food on the table, a roof over your head and getting to and from work, you would have seen a massive increase in the cost of living.

I myself received a £50 a month raise only to see a £50 a month rise in rent (10%), £5 a month rise in Council Tax, at least £20 increase a week on shopping bills and £20 a month on travel.

So for my £50 a month raise I now have to find at least another £160 a month to live like I did last year.

Isn't it about time the country stopped lying to itself and admit their sums don't add up?

In a year where we learn that Cliff Richard was done out of winning by General Franco we see one of the best UK entries in years reduced to last place.

Since the voting switched from a studio panel to a money grabbing phone-in we have seen the program, often seen as a joke, reduced to a total sham. The question has to be asked does the BBC have to waste license payers monies to finance this night of torture?

Sir Terry is reported as saying

"this is no longer a music contest,
Russia were going to be the political winners from the beginning."

He told viewers:

"I think it's tremendously disappointing from the point of view of the United Kingdom.
Andy Abraham gave, I think, the performance of his life with a song that certainly deserved far more points than it got when you look at the points that Spain got, that Bosnia-Herzegovina got - some really ridiculous songs."

BBC please take note, stop wasting our money......

The houses were 'landscaped' when first built and provisos were in place to ensure they stayed that way.

All the houses had drives and garages but residents complain that there is not enough off road parking for their 'cars' (emphasis on the plural).

Living in a quiet residential road I can agree with the Coventry council as I have slowly watched the loss of front gardens to paving at a rate of one every 6 months. The houses in our street are all bungalows with drives and garages but at least 6 houses have at least 3 cars parked outside on the paved areas.

My argument is not that we are losing front gardens but why a family of four need 4 cars?

Is grey the new green?

After fighting to have a questionable charge explained and being given the run around he posted his complaint on Youtube.

Having had similar problems with BT, I show empathy with the gent. Why is it there in no complaints department you can ring, where you can speak to someone in this country who understands what you are talking about?

They moaned that they were already working 55 hours a week..... and couldn't cope with the 'extra' work....

1. Most doctors do not work 55 hours a week as they rotate their surgeries to work 3/4 days a week (need to get the golf in).

2. 9 out of 10 Doctors opted to drop out of 'out of hours' work and now only average 36.3 hours (CBI figures)

3. 10 million people cannot book a doctor's appointment more than 48 hours in advance, and this causes millions of days of work lost a year because of inflexible GP hours.

By adopting a shift pattern doctors could spread the load across the day, reduce the millions of lost man hours and benefit the 'health' of the country overall.

Getting down off my soap box.

We seem to be bending over backwards for the rights of prisoners at the detriment of those brave souls who have to face abuse and attacks every day from some of the worst scum in the country.

It doesn't take a brain surgeon to realise that the funding for institutions like the prison service has been eroded since our 'illegal occupation' of Iraq and Afghanistan.

What is the use of a Prison Inspectorate that constantly criticises the underfunding of the system when the government for the past few years have been cutting back the amount of money being spent on an overworked antiquated system.

The Prison Service has one of the highest sick rates in any business which it copes with by putting more work on officers that remain. Then they wonderer why these officers go off sick.

What would help now would be the PCS union (the civil service branch of the prison service) would come out in sympathy for its uniformed brothers as we too have had to endure the hard-man tactics of the Home Office/MoJ over the past few years.

What you have to ask is would you put you life on the line each day, to keep the dregs of the earth off the streets of Britain for £20k a year?

Do they mean slagging each other off?

I suppose there will be ground rules to this new service.

Videos will be between 1 minute and 6 minutes long precisely.

No videos about sausages, unless they contain at least 80% meat.

Any pornographic clips must ensure that the male organ has no "abnormal curvature."

All music videos must include either Plastic Bertrand, Kraftwerk or Placido Domingo.

All videos must avoid mentioning 'the war'.

All videos must be 100% recyclable.

All videos must be available in 12 European languages (unless the original is in French)

All women must sport under-arm hair (and/or mustaches)

I rest my case......

Well first we need to address why so many of todays youth are drawn to crime. Is it background, peer influence, poverty, boredom or a cry for attention. What ever it is jail doesn't seem to be the answer considering the number of re-offenders. Some will argue that we are too soft on prisoners, and old lag of my acquaintance once told me what it used to be like breaking stones at Portland and how prisoners today get it easy. I must admit having access to TV, education, 3 meals a day and access to gym doesn't look like a hard time.

So what do we do? Make prisons like Guantonimo Bay or like Joe Arpaio's Tent City in Arizona?
Do we take away 'privileges' like tv, music, gym sessions etc and revert back to a more austere Victorian prison system where they were seen and not heard?

We could bring back National Service to 'straighten out' the yob element but then you just get a second rate army.

We could invest more in education to stop children being put on the scrap-heap of life from an early age through exclusion.

We could be controversial and sterilize all prisoners, so they cannot propagate the next generation of villains.

We could become 'Islamic' and start chopping of hands or other extremities.

What ever we do we have to do it fast and plow as much money as possible into finding an answer. Otherwise there will come a day where places like the Isle of Wight will be fenced off and become one great big prison.
